The Berlinische Galerie is dedicating an extensive retrospective to Raoul Hausmann, one of the most influential avant-gardists of classical modernism. Under the title “Vision. Provocation. Dada.”, around 200 works from national and international collections will be presented, illustrating Hausmann’s multifaceted and pioneering work. The artist saw art and life as inextricably linked and strived throughout his life to overcome familiar conventions and realise “tomorrow”. As a Dadaist, he was a co-founder of collage and experimented with synaesthetic devices, performances, photography and texts to explore the boundaries between body, sound and space.
The exhibition also focuses on Hausmann’s late work, which was created in France after his emigration from Nazi Germany and is being shown with the help of the Musée d’art contemporain de la Haute-Vienne Château de Rochechouart. The Berlinische Galerie is thus continuing its series of European collaborations and linking Hausmann’s artistic innovations with current social discourses. Visitors can expect exciting guided tours and interactive offerings that open up intensive access to Hausmann’s radical thinking and multimedia practice.
