With the “Dieter Krieg Prize 2025”, the Von der Heydt Museum in Wuppertal is once again living up to its claim of promoting innovative and contemporary art: this year’s award goes to the Wuppertal sculptor Jaana Caspary and also enables the purchase of one of her works for the collection. The exhibition presents an exciting selection of sculptures and wall reliefs that impressively reflect Caspary’s artistic signature. Her works are based on an examination of everyday objects of mass culture, whose forms and functions she alienates and reinterprets by moulding, changing materials and shifting perspectives.
Die Schau lädt dazu ein, vertraute Objekte aus ungewohnten Blickwinkeln zu betrachten und ihr skulpturales Potenzial zu entdecken. Caspary greift dabei auf Traditionen der modernen Skulptur zurück und verknüpft sie mit aktuellen Strömungen. Die Verbindung zu Dieter Krieg, nach dem der Preis benannt ist, wird ebenfalls thematisiert: Die Gemälde-Serie „Malsch Wanne“ steht exemplarisch für die Formfindung und den spielerischen Umgang mit Realität und Abstraktion. Neben aktuellen Werken Casparys werden in der Ausstellung auch interaktive Führungen, Künstlergespräche und Kreativworkshops für Groß und Klein angeboten – ein facettenreiches Programm, das Lust auf mehr macht.
