With the current exhibition “Love Letters to the City” at Berlin’s Urban Nation Museum, a multifaceted art show opens on 13 September 2024 that makes public space tangible in a new way. Curated by Michelle Houston, the nine chapters bring together around 50 works of art by international artists who rethink urban landscapes and creatively break through the boundaries of social, political, physical and conceptual spaces. Visitors can expect an artistic exploration of current issues such as urbanisation, gentrification, environmental problems and social inequality — always with the aim of initiating critical discussions and stimulating positive change.
The exhibition presents various forms of expression from street art to interventions in public space. The works encourage us to understand the city as an open, dynamic context that is shaped and constantly reinterpreted by its inhabitants. The artists represented include well-known names such as Banksy, Shepard Fairey and Blek le Rat, as well as up-and-coming talents from the international urban art scene. “Love Letters to the City” thus creates a platform for sustainable, inclusive and equitable visions of the future, which become visible and tangible through the artistic appropriation of urban space.
