The Kunsthalle Rostock invites visitors to rediscover the famous author and illustrator Janosch — whose real name is Horst Eckert. On the occasion of his 95th birthday, the multifaceted world of Janosch is presented on around 700 square metres: In addition to the legendary children’s characters, the lifelong search for a place of longing, epitomised by the leitmotif “Where is your Panama?”, takes centre stage. The exhibition combines adventure, hope and Janosch’s artistic profundity and invites visitors to embark on their own journey to Panama.
On three levels, guests can expect a walk-in world of experience with the Tigerenten Express, audio stations, lectures, creative workshops and interactive painting and hands-on activities for young and old. A separate area is dedicated to Janosch as a critical artist and social observer. Here, themes such as melancholy, consumer criticism and religion are reflected in atmospherically designed rooms. In this way, the exhibition creates a dialogue between children’s book culture and social relevance and invites all generations to find their own answers to the question of individual Panama.
