In 2026, the Kunsthalle Rostock is presenting a retrospective exhibition by the renowned photographer Olaf Heine. Under the title “Human Conditions”, Heine’s diverse artistic works will be shown — including photographs, videos and short films. Heine’s works are characterised by a fascination with the complex relationships between individuals and their surroundings. His meticulously staged portraits of contemporary artists, often in tableaux with echoes of classic Hollywood, play a central role. Heine also documents important 20th century architecture, from Le Corbusier’s Villa Savoye near Paris to Niemeyer’s museum in Rio de Janeiro.
One highlight of the exhibition is the long-standing collaboration with the band Rammstein, which can be seen as an independent art installation in the White Cube. The East and West galleries on the upper floor also present large analogue formats, Polaroids and video works from the fields of music, film, visual arts and sport. The show provides an impressive overview of more than three decades of work by a photographer who has portrayed artists such as Kurt Cobain, Cate Blanchett and U2 and made international headlines.
