The ex­hi­bi­ti­on “Flirt und Fan­ta­sie — Grif­fel­kunst von Max Klin­ger bis Pe­ter Doig” at the Kunst­hal­le Bre­men in­vi­tes vi­si­tors to ta­ke their ima­gi­na­ti­on on a jour­ney. On dis­play are free­ly nar­ra­ted image se­quen­ces crea­ted using et­ching need­les, li­tho­gra­phic cray­ons, wood or screen prin­ting and pho­to­gra­phy. The fo­cus is on sto­ries wi­th open en­dings, dream worlds, vi­si­ons and trans­for­ma­ti­ons — in short: images that ex­plo­re and ex­pand the li­mits of the ima­gi­na­ti­on. The pre­sen­ted cy­cles we­re pu­blished by the Ham­bur­ger Grif­fel­kunst-Ver­ei­ni­gung e.V., which ce­le­bra­tes its 100th an­ni­ver­sa­ry in 2025 and thus looks back on an ex­tra­or­di­na­ry histo­ry in the field of print­ma­king.

The ex­hi­bi­ti­on opens wi­th the fa­mous gra­phic work “Ein Hand­schuh, Opus VI” (1881) by Max Klin­ger, whichof­fersvi­si­torsa fa­sci­na­ting in­tro­duc­tion to the world of ar­tis­tic gra­phics. A to­tal of around 65 works by ar­tistssuch as Franz Burk­hardt, Mar­cel van Ee­den, Pe­ter Doig, Asa­na Fu­ji­ka­wa, Wen­zel Ha­b­lik, An­na Hai­fisch, Yves Netz­ham­mer, Paul Nou­gé, Ned­ko So­la­kov, Em­ma Tal­bot and Hein­rich Vo­ge­l­er are on dis­play. The ex­hi­bi­ti­on im­pres­si­ve­ly de­mons­tra­tes how di­ver­se and nar­ra­ti­ve the gra­phic arts can be and in­vi­tes vi­si­tors to dis­co­ver the ma­gic of flir­ta­ti­on and fan­ta­sy wi­th each new pic­tu­re.
