The Kunsthalle zu Kiel is currently presenting an extraordinary exhibition project: under the title “Favourite Pieces! The Kunsthalle zu Kiel as a guest at the Museumsberg Flensburg”, a dozen hand-picked masterpieces from the Kiel collection will be on display in Flensburg until 1 December 2026. While the Kunsthalle in Kiel is undergoing major refurbishment, its most precious works — carefully selected by museum director Michael Fuhr himself — are being taken on a special journey. Among the guests are real highlights by great painters such as Emil Nolde, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff and Asger Jorn. The selection ranges from Dutch Baroque still lifes to icons of classical modernism and 19th century landscapes.
The staging of the exhibition allows the loans to enter into an exciting dialogue with the works in the Flensburg collection. This creates completely new contexts and perspectives for visitors. Particularly noteworthy is the circular painting “The Hermit” by Albert Aereboe, for which a separate room has even been designed. If you fancy a meeting with some real favourites, you shouldn’t miss this special exchange between Kiel and Flensburg!
