The exhibition “Correggio. Touchingly human” at the Albertinum of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden is dedicated to one of the most fascinating painters in art history: Antonio Allegri, known as Correggio (1489–1534). With his unique use of light, lively figures and innovative reinterpretations of religious and erotic themes, Correggio is considered a defining figure of the Renaissance. Although he is on a par with artists such as Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael and Titian, his name and his work are less well known today. This makes this exhibition, which will present outstanding international loans and Dresden’s unique collection of panel paintings from 19 September 2026 to 10 January 2027, all the more special.
At the centre of the exhibition is Correggio’s extraordinary ability to express emotions in his paintings. His art gives the divine a profoundly human face and touches us with atmospheric light and cheerful, lifelike figures. The Dresden exhibition is the first comprehensive exhibition of Correggio’s work outside Italy and opens its doors daily (except Mondays) from 10 am to 5 pm for visitors who want to be inspired by this artist’s touching mastery.
