The Potsdam Museum — Forum for Art and History is dedicating a comprehensive exhibition to the extraordinary German impressionist Theo von Brockhusen. From 22 November 2025 to 22 March 2026, visitors can discover his colourful landscapes, which were mainly created on Lake Schwielow near Potsdam and represent a unique mood of light and harmony with nature. In addition to Brockhusen’s fascinating paintings, works by his fellow artists and companions, who together shaped modernism in Berlin and Brandenburg, will also be on display.
The exhibition offers a painterly journey through Europe and Brockhusen’s light-filled pictorial world. It invites visitors to understand the artistic intentions of the time and answers the question of why artists such as Brockhusen, Käthe Kollwitz and Max Liebermann joined together in free associations to break new ground in art. Curated by Dr. Hendrikje Warmt, the show is presented on two floors and offers an inspiring dialogue between light, colour and nature with atmospheric works such as “An der Havel” or “Blühende Bäume”.
