A special exhibition will be presented at the Potsdam Museum — Forum for Art and History from spring 2025: Berlin artist Christopher Lehmpfuhl will immerse himself in the atmosphere of the Alter Markt in Potsdam for a year, capturing this important square from different perspectives and at different times of the year. Lehmpfuhl’s pictures are created directly on site and reflect the spatial and temporal diversity of the Alter Markt. The result of this intensive artistic exploration is an impressive collection of his characteristically impasto, partly relief-like plein air paintings, which enjoy international recognition and will be shown together for the first time as part of the special exhibition from 30 May to 25 October 2026 — accompanied by the parallel exhibition “Platz für Neues? Visions for the Alter Markt 1945–2025”.
Lehmpfuhl, born in Berlin in 1972 and a master student of Klaus Fußmann, is known for his colourful oil paintings inspired by German and French Impressionists. In addition to regular painting trips and large documentary cycles — such as the Berlin City Palace — he has made a name for himself as a watercolourist, graphic artist and sculptor and is currently also exploring glass art and ceramics. His works are represented in numerous renowned collections. The Potsdam Museum, together with the Förderverein and the KORNFELD Galerie Berlin, invites visitors to experience Lehmpfuhl’s new artistic chapter around the Alter Markt on site.
