From 20 March to 9 August 2026, the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin is presenting the first comprehensive Brancusi retrospective in Germany for over 50 years. Constantin Brancusi is one of the most important sculptors of the 20th century and is considered a pioneer of sculptural abstraction. After his classical-academic beginnings in Romania, Brancusi found his own artistic expression in Paris from 1907. His organic forms, reduced to the essentials, as well as his innovative use of materials, plinths, light and movement make him unique worldwide.
In cooperation with the Centre Pompidou, the exhibition presents over 150 works — sculptures, photographs, drawings, films and rarely shown archive material from international collections. In addition to highlights such as “The Kiss”, “Bird in Space”, “Slumbering Muse” and the “Infinite Column”, visitors can look forward to a partial reconstruction of Brancusi’s legendary Parisian studio. This studio will be visible outside of Paris for the first time since it was handed over to the French state in 1957 and offers a special insight into the artist’s work.
While Brancusi is very well known in France, his name was previously only known to insiders in Germany. With this exhibition, the artist finally receives the attention he deserves and makes his artistic vision accessible to a wide audience.
