The Albertinum of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden is dedicatinga joint exhibitionto two of the most important pioneersof modernism: Paula Modersohn-Becker and Edvard Munch. From 8 February to 31 May 2026, the focus will be on the “big questions of life” — from birth to death, from nature to self-image, from renewal to transience. Both artistsshaped the art of the 20th century with their expressive works and will be presented in Dresden with numerous main and key works — a unique opportunity to discover their different temperaments and perspectives in dialogue.
To mark the 150th anniversary of their birth, the exhibition not only focuses on the artistic work of these two exceptional personalities. It also builds a bridge to current themes: Man, nature and the environment, social change and the perpetual quest for meaning. The presentation is accompanied by participatory discussion formats and an invitation to visitors to contribute their own texts and thoughts on the exhibited works.
