In the autumn of the Capital of Culture year, the Gunzenhauser Museum is inviting visitors to an unusual exhibition format: In “Best of II — Visitor’s Choice”, the visitors themselves take centre stage. They are invited to redefine the museum and create a place for exchange and discussion. Driven by a participatory approach, not only the museum’s youth council, but also committed Chemnitz residents, artists and numerous initiatives from the city are coming together to set a creative process in motion. The aim is to open up the museum further, learn from diverse voices and establish new ways of interacting.
The playfully designed floor is particularly exciting and encourages visitors to engage with the artists in the collection and their techniques — be it collages, music and art, haptic experiences or painting as a physical act. The focus here is on creativity, dialogue and personal access to the artworks. From November 2025, the third floor will also open for a selection of favourite paintings from the perspective of museum visitors, providing a further insight into the multifaceted collection. The exhibition will be accompanied by numerous offers such as guided tours, workshops (cyanotype, stamping, sonificator session), yoga in the museum and interactive discussion formats with live speakers. In this way, “Best of II” becomes a lively, inclusive place where tradition and innovation merge in an inspiring way.
