With the Baltic Sea Fellowship, the Kunsthalle Rostock is establishing a pioneering fellowship programme in cooperation with the Künstlerhaus Lukas in Ahrenshoop. For the first time, a platform has been created that offers artists from the entire international Baltic Sea region the opportunity to develop their creative work in the inspiring atmosphere of the German Baltic Sea coast. The fellowship includes a stay of up to three months at the renowned Künstlerhaus Lukas, where the fellows can work in direct contact with nature and the cultural heritage of the region.
The results of this intensive creative period then find their way to the public: in the LAB of the Kunsthalle Rostock’s Schaudepot, the artists are given the opportunity to present the works they have created on the Baltic coast in a month-long exhibition. This presentation not only serves to make the artistic work visible, but also enables a direct dialogue between the artists and the public. The result is a lively exchange that goes beyond the traditional boundaries of an exhibition.
With the Baltic Sea Fellowship, the Kunsthalle Rostock is pursuing the ambitious goal of making it possible to experience the Baltic Sea region as a coherent artistic space and to establish extensive networks between artists, art venues and institutions. The Kunsthalle deliberately positions itself as an international hub in the Baltic Sea region and creates a bridge between the different cultures and artistic traditions that characterise this maritime region. The fellowship is thus exemplary of contemporary, cross-border cultural work that combines local identity and international networking.
